Crispy Chilli Chicken: A Flavorful Asian Delight

Description

This popular Indo-Chinese favorite features crispy fried chicken tossed in a tangy, spicy chili sauce. It’s perfect as a snack, appetizer, or main dish with rice or noodles.


Ingredients

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb (450g) boneless chicken (thighs or breast), cut into bite-size pieces

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • Oil, for frying

For the Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp oil

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 inch ginger, grated

  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional for extra heat)

  • 1/2 onion, diced

  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce or sriracha

  • 1 tbsp ketchup

  • 1 tsp vinegar

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 12 tbsp water, to loosen sauce if needed

  • Spring onions, for garnish


Instructions

  • Make the Chicken: In a bowl, mix chicken pieces with egg, cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. Toss until coated.

  • Heat oil in a pan and fry chicken pieces until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  • Make the Sauce: In a large pan, heat 1 tbsp oil. Sauté garlic, ginger, and green chili. Add onion and bell pepper, cook for 2–3 minutes.

  • Stir in soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, and water. Simmer until slightly thickened.

  • Toss the crispy chicken into the sauce and coat well.

  • Garnish with spring onions and serve hot!

Notes

  • Adjust spice level by reducing or increasing chili sauce and fresh chili.

  • For a healthier version, air-fry or bake the chicken instead of deep-frying.

  • Serve with fried rice, noodles, or enjoy on its own!
