Description
These Crispy Fried Chicken Wings are golden, crunchy on the outside, and juicy on the inside. With the perfect balance of spices and a crispy batter, they make for an irresistible snack or meal!
Ingredients
- 12 chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- 1 egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
-
Prepare the wings: Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. This will help achieve extra crispiness.
-
Make the batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk.
-
Coat the wings: Dip each wing into the buttermilk mixture, then coat it well in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to ensure an even coating.
-
Heat the oil: Heat oil in a deep pan or skillet to 350°F (175°C). The oil should be enough to fully submerge the wings.
-
Fry the wings: Fry the wings in batches for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Be sure not to overcrowd the pan. Remove the wings and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
-
Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like ranch or buffalo sauce.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, let the wings rest on a rack for a few minutes before frying.
- If you prefer baked wings, bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Add a pinch of garlic or onion powder to your dipping sauce for extra flavor.
