  • Author: Amelia
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 2 loaves 1x

Description

Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside—this homemade French bread brings the bakery experience straight to your kitchen! Perfect for sandwiches, garlic bread, or simply enjoying with butter.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

1️⃣ In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
2️⃣ Add salt, olive oil, and 2 cups of flour. Mix, then gradually add the remaining flour until dough forms.
3️⃣ Knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
4️⃣ Punch down the dough, divide it in half, and shape into baguettes. Place on a lined baking sheet and let rise for 20 minutes.
5️⃣ Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Make 3-4 diagonal slashes on each loaf and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
6️⃣ Cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy warm with butter or your favorite toppings!

Notes

✔️ For an extra crispy crust, place a pan of hot water in the oven while baking.
✔️ Brush the loaves with melted butter for a soft, golden finish.
✔️ Store leftovers in an airtight bag or freeze for later use.
