  • Author: amelia
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Pan Fried Walleye is a simple yet flavorful way to enjoy this mild, delicate fish. With a crispy golden crust and tender, flaky meat inside, it’s the perfect dish for a quick weeknight dinner or a special occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 walleye fillets (fresh or thawed)

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup cornmeal (optional for extra crispness)

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

  • Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the fish:

    • Pat the walleye fillets dry with paper towels. This ensures a crispy crust when frying.

    • In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to mix.

  • Coat the fish:

    • Dredge each walleye fillet in the flour mixture, pressing lightly to coat evenly on both sides.

  • Heat the skillet:

    • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil and butter.

    • Allow the butter to melt and foam, but not burn.

  • Cook the fish:

    • Carefully place the coated walleye fillets into the skillet, cooking in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.

    • Cook the fillets for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. The fish should easily flake when tested with a fork.

  • Serve:

    • Once cooked, transfer the fillets to a plate and squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top.

    • Garnish with chopped parsley and serve with extra lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, you can use olive oil or avocado oil to cook the fish instead of butter.

  • Serve the fried walleye with rice, a green salad, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
