Description
This quick and easy sautéed green peas and bacon dish is the perfect side for any meal. The sweetness of peas pairs beautifully with the smoky, salty flavor of crispy bacon, making it a delightful addition to your dinner table.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups frozen green peas, thawed
- 4 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1/2 small onion, finely diced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Optional garnish: Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Cook the Bacon:
- In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Sauté the Onion and Garlic:
- In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, add the diced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Add the Peas:
- Add the thawed peas to the skillet and stir to combine. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the peas are heated through.
- Finish with Butter and Bacon:
- Stir in the butter for added richness. Add the cooked bacon back into the skillet and toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with fresh parsley, if desired. Serve warm as a side dish.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a squeeze of lemon juice or a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
- You can use fresh peas instead of frozen—just blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes before sautéing.
- Substitute turkey bacon or pancetta for a lighter or different flavor profile.
